Signs of the Zodiac or Signs of Salvation?

While I was passively listening to the radio, D. James Kennedy’s program, “Truths That Transform,” came on. Dr. Kennedy was continuing on a series of sermons on how the signs of the zodiac were originally signs to point to Christ’s redemptive work on the cross (scroll to the bottom for a brief synopsis, or listen to his sermons). Kennedy discusses each symbol in detail, using the ancient languages to reveal how “God wrote His salvation in the stars.”

While I think that it is a very interesting thought that God may have used the constellations to tell the story of His love for us, is that a stretch or is that valid? I was left unsure. Any thoughts or knowledge in this type of subject or how it relates to Biblical exegesis?

God is most certainly an omnipotent God who is capable of creating such a message in His heavens, but I think that all too often we attempt to ascribe God’s motives to His actions. Take Hurrican Katrinna for example. Many of us in Christian circles may have heard an assortment of reasons for “God’s judgement” on New Orleans. Isaiah 55:8-9 says that we can’t know the mind of God.

So now I have several questions. First, are constellations God’s creation or man’s interpretation of God’s creation? Second, Is this a way to try to turn something pagan back to a “safe” vantage point? Third, was this really the historical message given to the 12 constellations forming the modern day zodiac?

I’m a little skeptical, but I haven’t researched it yet. Please share any thoughts you may have!

And if you know what symbol is included on this post, you get bonus points.

Well, snaps for you. I guess that event though you don’t have an identity, you still have a brain! Especially since you were the only one to even bother to answer this. Way to problem solve.
